National Grid Recruitment is seeking an Electricity Distribution Engineering Specialist to lead HV projects across our 132kV/33kV network from Stoke. You will install, commission and deliver critical infrastructure while mentoring teams and maintaining safety standards.
The role requires Senior Authorised Person credentials, City & Guilds 2339 and HNC qualifications, with opportunities for travel and standby duties as needed to support outages and outages root cause analysis.
Qualifications

Responsibilities
- Installation and commissioning of Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems on 132kV/33kV networks.
- Manage projects using the APMP framework; report KPIs across lifecycle.
- Advise on innovations in electricity network management and automation.
- Identify and address training needs for team members.
- Liaise with other specialists within the Company.
- Carry out network operations including safety documentation up to 132kV.
- Issue planned outages and third‑party shutdown notices; coordinate with customers.
- Exercise leadership and request assistance when required.
- Adjust short‑term program to changing circumstances; align with constraints.
- Assist with assessment and authorisation of operational staff.
- Possibility of standby duties on a predefined rota.

In this pivotal role, you’ll play a key part in installing, commissioning and delivering critical infrastructure across our distribution network—working on Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems up to 132kV.You’ll be at the heart of keeping our network safe, reliable and future‑ready. Reporting to an Operations/Team Manager, you’ll lead on technically challenging projects, solve complex problems on the ground, and help shape the way we design and manage our assets. If you’re motivated by hands‑on engineering, meaningful impact, and work that’s never the same two days in a row, this could be the perfect next step.*Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

- Installation and commissioning of Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems on the 132kV and 33kV network.
- Mange a range of projects using the APMP model and report on KPIs during their lifecycle.
- Advise own and other team members on innovations in electricity network management and automation.
- Identify training needs of own and other team members and provide training as necessary.
- Liaise with other specialists within the Company.
- Carry out network operations including the issue of all safety documents up to 132kV.
- Issue planned network outages and third-party shutdown notices, make appointments with customers.
- Exercise leadership.
- Request assistance when outside capability or authority.
- Alter own short term programme to meet changes in circumstances, within constraints.
- Assisting with the assessment and authorisation of operational staff.
- You may be required to undertake Standby duties on a rota as part of this appointment.
- Practical knowledge of protection and control systems, including the commissioning of such equipment and familiarity with specifications for plant.
- A level 3 City & Guilds 2339 qualification; candidates not already qualified will be required to undertake HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
- Ideally be a Senior Authorised Person on 132kV electricity network with experience working for a Distribution Network Operator (DNO), Independent DNO (IDNO) or Independent Connection Provider (ICP).
- Proven experience in working in a high hazard industry, with strong commitment to health and safety and knowledge of construction management regulations (CDM 2015).
- Experience in formally managing projects, including financial monitoring and reporting.
- Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to work autonomously and remain effective under pressure.
- A commitment to the highest standards of quality, safety and operational discipline.
- Willingness to travel across the network services area and participate in standby duties in line with a predefined rota.
- Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
