Job summary

National Grid is seeking experienced Project Managers to lead the delivery of major electricity infrastructure projects in South Wales, including HV substations and cabling. Roles include Lead and standard PM, with on-site presence required 3 days per week during construction.

You'll manage development through to completion, ensuring safety, time and budget targets, with strong stakeholder engagement and governance compliance. Hybrid working is offered across Swansea and Cardiff areas.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH certification.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body desirable (APM/RICS/CIOB).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

  • Ensure health, safety, environmental and CDM compliance throughout.
  • Manage contractors and project teams to deliver projects to time, cost, and specification.

  • Support tendering, contract strategy, and NEC contract management.
  • Oversee commissioning, handover, and asset integration.

Job description

Great Britain's electricity infrastructure is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.

We have a portfolio of high value, large-scale construction projects within the Infrastructure Delivery (ID) team, upgrading cabling, overhead lines and High Voltage substations. The projects range from development to delivery stages.

We are seeking experienced Project Managers to lead and support the development and delivery of these major electricity infrastructure projects across South Wales. We have two different levels of Project Manager available, one being a Lead role.

You'll play a key role in taking projects from development through to completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities (varying By Level)
  • Support project development, consenting, delivery, and close-out in line with governance processes.
  • Ensure health, safety, environmental and CDM compliance throughout.
  • Manage contractors and project teams to deliver projects to time, cost, and specification.

These roles require a hybrid working approach with a mix of site, office and occasional home working. Projects are based around Swansea and Cardiff and during construction, you will be expected to be on site around these areas for 3 days minimum.

About You
You’ll be a tenacious, accomplished project manager, and possess:
  • Experience in delivering complex construction infrastructure or electricity transmission projects (substation/HV experience advantageous but not essential).
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations, SHESQ standards, and contract management (NEC).
  • Commercially aware with experience of forecasting, budgeting, and governance.

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH certification.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. APM, RICS, CIOB) desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

For the Lead role, you’ll possess advanced project management skills, supervisory experience and be able to support and mentor the team to develop capability and ensure resilience.

A competitive salary of £54,000 - £67,000 or £61,400 – £77,000 for the Lead role, plus a market supplement of £4,500 per annum
