Job summary

OCU Group is seeking a Project Manager to oversee large energy programmes in Borehamwood. You will lead HV substation projects from initiation to delivery, ensuring scope, budget and schedule adherence while coordinating multidisciplinary teams and safeguarding client expectations.

You will manage risk, schedules and resources, liaising with clients and internal teams to drive successful project outcomes in a complex energy environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Project Management or closely related discipline.
  • Experience delivering high-voltage cabling projects (132kV+) from design to commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of cabling infrastructure and project governance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and delivery of high-voltage substation projects safely, on time and within budget.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, resources and risk plans.
  • Act as main client/contractor interface ensuring clear communication.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to maximise performance.
  • Monitor resources, costs and progress across the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks with corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety and regulatory standards.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to stakeholders and senior management.

The Opportunity

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and large-scale projects from initiation to completion, ensuring successful delivery within scope, budget, and schedule. You will play a key role in managing project teams, coordinating activities, and mitigating risks to achieve project objectives and exceed client expectations.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the planning and delivery of high-voltage substation projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, resources, and risk management plans.
  • Act as the main point of contact for clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders, ensuring clear communication throughout project delivery.
  • Lead and support multidisciplinary project teams, promoting collaboration and high performance.
  • Manage project resources effectively to optimise productivity and delivery outcomes.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, regulatory, and client requirements.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and reporting.
  • Oversee project progress from design and procurement through construction, testing, and commissioning.
  • Deliver regular project updates, reports, and reviews to stakeholders and senior management.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical) or Project Management, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering high-voltage cabling projects, ideally 132kV and above, from design through to commissioning.
  • Strong technical knowledge of cabling infrastructure.
  • Proven experience managing complex engineering projects and programmes.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining safety, quality, and schedule performance.
  • Proficiency with project management and engineering tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, AutoCAD, and document control systems.
  • Strong understanding of UK utility and transmission standards, including National Grid specifications, DNO/TSO requirements, CDM Regulations, and IEC standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, particularly in complex project environments.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret technical drawings, schedules, cost reports, and risk registers.
