Job summary

WH Scott & Son (Engineers) Ltd is seeking a Project Engineer to lead lifting equipment projects across rail, aerospace, defence, manufacturing and heavy industry. You will own technical detail from award to handover, conduct site surveys, review drawings, and coordinate contractors with RAMS and lift plans.

Based in Bristol with UK travel, this 12-month contract offers varied projects and a pathway to permanent roles.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or degree in mechanical, electrical or related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years in a project engineering/technical role in lifting, fabrication or industrial services, including site-based work.
• Knowledge of safety and compliance standards (LOLER/PUWER/RAMS) and reading drawings.
• Strong organisation and communication with safety-first mindset, including working at height.
• Full UK driving licence and proficiency with MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical detail from contract award through commissioning and handover.
• Conduct site surveys and review drawings with Design.
• Coordinate subcontractors and installation teams and manage technical queries and changes.
• Prepare RAMS and lift plans, maintain document control and meeting minutes.
• Track purchasing and project costs in Business Central; ensure audit-ready files.

Want to see your work lifting real loads? WH Scott & Son (Engineers) Ltd, part of WH Scott Group, is looking for a Project Engineer to help deliver lifting equipment projects for clients across rail, aerospace, defence, manufacturing and heavy industry.

With over 125 years in safety-critical engineering and offices across the UK and Ireland, we design, manufacture, install and test lifting solutions, from overhead and gantry cranes to lifting beams, rail replacements and bespoke equipment.

The role

Reporting to the Group Head of Projects and working closely with our Project Managers, you'll own the technical detail of your projects from contract award through to commissioning and handover. That means carrying out site surveys, reviewing drawings with our Design team, managing technical queries and change, coordinating subcontractors and installation teams, and preparing RAMS and lift plans. You'll also keep projects organised and audit-ready, from document control and meeting minutes to purchasing and cost tracking in Business Central.

The role is based in our Bristol office, with regular site visits across the UK and occasional overnight stays.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, created to support a growing pipeline of project work across the

group.

What you'll bring

• An HNC/HND or degree in mechanical, electrical or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience
• At least 2 years in a project engineering or technical role in engineering, lifting, fabrication or industrial services, including site-based installation or refurbishment work
• Working knowledge of LOLER, PUWER and RAMS, and the ability to read engineering drawings
• Strong organisation, clear communication and a safety-first mindset, including comfort working at height
• Confidence with Microsoft Office and a full UK driving licence
• Experience with cranes or lifting equipment, NEC contracts, CDM, CAD, Microsoft Project or Business Central would be a real plus. APM PFQ/PMQ, PRINCE2 Foundation or similar; CSCS card; IOSH Working Safely or SMSTS/SSSTS.
