Job summary

Johnson Matthey Swindon invites applications for a Production Department Manager. You will oversee daily departmental performance, manage the production team, and coordinate support functions within a matrix structure.

You will lead EHS initiatives, drive quality improvements, work with Engineering on maintenance and asset lifecycle, and help build robust processes using FMEA. Join a world leader in platinum group metals and contribute to a sustainable future.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily departmental performance and manage the production team within a matrix structure.
  • Provide leadership in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to improve processes, training and KPI alignment.
  • Oversee the department’s EHS performance and ensure corrective actions are completed on time.
  • Drive a quality-first mindset and continuous improvements in output quality.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to identify critical equipment and develop maintenance and lifecycle plans.

As a Production Department Manager you’ll join a world leader in platinum group metals with over 200 years of history and innovation. The role:
  • To oversee and drive daily departmental performance, including managing the production team and coordinating support functions within a matrix management structure.
  • Provide leadership in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to enhance processes, equipment, staff awareness, and training, ensuring continuous EHS improvements and alignment with key performance indicators (KPIs) as well as regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Responsible for overseeing the department’s EHS performance.
  • Ensure that all corrective actions identified in incident reports within your areas of responsibility are appropriate, completed thoroughly, and within the established timelines.
  • Foster a \\"quality first\\" approach and drive ongoing improvements in the quality output produced by the team.
  • Contribute to and help build robust processes based on Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to identify critical equipment, develop preventive maintenance strategies, and establish asset lifecycle management plans, including the strategic replacement of equipment.
Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:
  • Proven experience in managing production operations, driving efficiency, and leading high-performing teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of general Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) management principles.
  • Proven leadership and decision-making abilities and the ability to lead by example and build a successful team.
  • High energy and enthusiasm for the role and team development
  • Strong business and customer awareness.
  • Skilled at distilling complex situations into clear, concise summaries for senior leadership or non-experts.
