Johnson Matthey Plc in Royston, UK is seeking an Operator I: Entry Level Operator to join a world leader in platinum group metals. The role focuses on personal safety, following process docs, batch sheets and handovers to maintain continuous production.

You’ll perform skilled operator tasks, support production schedules, and participate in 5S and continuous improvement, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, learning, and a safe work culture. Closing date: posted for 2 weeks.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 with 4 GCSEs (A*-C) including English, Maths and Science.
• 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) in engineering or science beneficial but not required.
• Understand large-scale manufacturing facilities and the importance of EHS.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for personal safety by following JM’s safety rules and reporting incidents/unsafe conditions.
• Follow process documents (risk analyses, instructions, standard work) and complete batch sheets and handovers for smooth production.
• Support operations by performing skilled operator tasks, adhering to production schedules, performing basic preventative maintenance, and assisting the Production Lead.
• Drive continuous improvement by upholding 5S standards, collaborating with the team, and identifying plant reliability issues.

Job description

Job title: Operator I: Entry Level Operator Location: Royston, UK (12 Months FTC) At Johnson Matthey, your work will matter.

As a Operator I: Entry Level Operator, you’ll join a world leader in platinum group metals with over 200 years of history and innovation. You’ll help tackle the world’s biggest challenges - cutting emissions, powering modern society and enhancing lives - as we continue to apply, refine and recycle metals that matter, for a healthier and more resilient future.

The role:

• Take responsibility for personal safety by following JM’s safe working practices, PPE guidelines, and contributing to a safe, healthy work environment, including reporting incidents and unsafe conditions.
• Follow all relevant process documentation (e.g., risk analyses, process instructions, standard work) and complete batch sheets and handovers to ensure smooth, continuous production.
• Support operations by performing skilled operator tasks, adhering to production schedules, conducting basic preventative maintenance, and carrying out duties as directed by the Production Lead.
• Drive continuous improvement by upholding 5S standards, collaborating with team members, suggesting process improvements, participating in failure investigations, and identifying plant reliability issues.

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

• Must be at least 18 years old with a minimum of 4 GCSEs (A*-C) including English, Maths, and Science
• 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) in engineering or science and experience in chemical, engineering, or manufacturing fields are beneficial but not required
• Should understand large-scale manufacturing facilities and the importance of EHS
• Must demonstrate strong safety focus, teamwork, positive attitude, motivation, attention to detail, and commitment to learning
• Requires strong communication skills, flexibility, integrity, and the ability to work accurately, efficiently, and meet deadlines
• Due to the nature of this role applicants must be non-smokers and have been free from nicotine products for at least 3 months
