Salary: £32,000 - £40,000 + discretionary bonus

️ Office requirement: 4 day per week (1 day WFH)

The role

At Elizabeth Scarlett, we are scaling our presence in the UK and US with the ambitious goal of raising £2 Million for Wildlife Conservation by 2030. We are looking for passionate, driven individuals eager to make an extraordinary impact and help us achieve this goal.

As a Product Technologist, you will be responsible for the technical development and quality assurance of our new and existing product line, with a focus on bags and accessories. As part of the Production team you will work closely with the design team to ensure products meet quality standards, technical specifications, and cost requirements.

Sounds great, what will I be doing?

  • Partner with design team to translate creative concepts into technically viable, new products
  • Evaluate and select appropriate materials, trims, and hardware for performance, quality, and cost efficiency
  • Conduct material testing and quality assessments throughout the development process
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during product development and production
  • Establish quality standards and help implement quality control processes
  • Analyse NPD costs, manage budgets, and ensure new products meet our margin requirements
  • As part of the Production team, work with suppliers and manufacturers to optimise production processes
  • Stay current with innovations in materials, production techniques, and sustainability practices
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant product regulations, safety standards, and certification requirements across global markets
  • Lead sustainability initiatives for new product development, including researching and implementing eco-friendly materials, production methods, and packaging solutions
  • Support the creation of tech packs, including construction details and manufacturing instructions
  • Analyse product technical performance once launched, and gather feedback to improve future designs

We predominantly sell personalised and embroidered velvet accessories across the Pouches, Makeup, Travel, Sleep and Bags categories. People love gifting, receiving and treating themselves with our products because of the little moments of joy and continuous reminders of wildlife they bring.

Our mission is to create joy by making exceptionally high-quality products that are inspired by nature, beautifully functional and adorned with hand-painted designs by our founder, Lizzie.

In 2025 we will be:

  • Growing our US business to 50% (or more!) of total revenue
  • Redefining our brand into a standout memorable asset
  • Developing our product categories for commercial scale

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Bachelor's degree in Textile Technology, Fashion Design, Product Development, or related field preferable
  • 3-5 years' experience in product development, preferably with accessories and bags
  • Able to come into our Potters Bar (EN6) studio 4-5 days a week
  • Willingness and ability to travel globally to visit new and existing manufacturers
  • Strong understanding of materials (textiles, cotton, synthetic materials) and their properties
  • Knowledge of accessories construction techniques and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with technical specification creation and quality control procedures
  • Familiarity with global compliance standards and testing requirements
  • Understanding of costing, sourcing, and supply chain management
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent technical problem-solving abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and quality focus
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to balance aesthetic, functional, and commercial requirements
  • Knowledge of sustainable materials and manufacturing practices
