Job summary

Altus Group is seeking a Product Engineering Manager to lead people, shape technical direction, and stay close to engineering work. You’ll guide a team of engineers, foster psychological safety, and drive pragmatic innovation in an AWS-native, cloud-first environment.

You’ll collaborate with Product and Architecture to define strategy, raise engineering standards, and ensure delivery that balances feature work with reliability, security and long-term platform health.

Qualifications

• Strong background in software engineering and people management.
• Experience building and scaling high-performing teams.
• Delivery experience with customer-facing web applications.
• Comfortable with Agile and continuous improvement.
• Experience leading change across technology or ways of working.
• Hands-on experience with AI/ML tools in engineering teams.
• Cloud-native architecture and AWS familiarity.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language.
• Understanding of system design and software fundamentals.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, observability, secure production systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead, grow and support inclusive engineering teams.
• Create a high-trust, psychologically safe environment where people feel supported and accountable.
• Hire and onboard new team members with regular 1:1s, feedback, coaching and clear development plans; handle performance conversations with empathy and clarity.
• Maintain understanding of team strengths, skills and future needs.
• Support engineers and partners in Agile and Lean practices.
• Shape technical strategy with Product and Architecture to delivery plans.
• Guide AWS-native and cloud-based platform development alongside legacy systems.
• Uphold engineering standards across code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability and documentation.
• Stay close to technical decisions through design reviews and architecture discussions.
• Balance feature delivery with technical debt, reliability, security and platform health.
• Remove blockers and risks to enable predictable delivery.
• Lead AI tool usage to improve productivity and quality.
• Encourage experimentation with AI and LLMs where valuable.
• Embed AI capabilities into products and internal platforms.
• Share learnings and outcomes to explain what’s working and why.
• Own delivery commitments and plan work realistically.
• Use metrics to improve transparency and decision-making.
• Improve developer experience.
• Support on-call practices, retrospectives and post-incident reviews.
• Promote cost awareness across AWS environments.
• Collaborate with other Engineering Managers through Communities of Practice.
