Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking an Associate Policy and Procedures Lead to shape the Council's commercial policy framework. You will lead the development and continuous improvement of policies, translate legislation into practical guidance, and provide expert advice to procurement colleagues.

This permanent role offers 36.5 hours a week, a grade D salary, flexible hybrid working and a commitment to professional development within a large local authority.

Qualifications

• Experience developing, implementing and maintaining policies within a complex organisation.
• Ability to translate complex legislation into practical guidance.
• Excellent written communication for concise policies and guidance.
• Experience managing multiple projects to tight timescales.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and continuous improvement of commercial and procurement policies.
• Translate legislative requirements, including the Procurement Act 2023, into accessible policies.
• Provide expert advice on governance and policy best practice.
• Collaborate across the Council to align policies with priorities.
• Develop guidance, communications and training to embed procurement practices.
• Monitor compliance and identify improvements, supporting issue resolution.
• Manage policy development projects and coach team members.
