Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking an Associate Governance and Assurance Lead to join our Commercial and Procurement Services. The role focuses on strengthening governance across procurement and ensuring compliance and transparency for Birmingham's residents.

You will lead governance standards, provide expert guidance on compliance, review business cases and manage the assurance pipeline while supporting stakeholders to mitigate risks in a value-driven procurement environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in procurement, commercial or governance with end-to-end lifecycle understanding.
• Experience supporting governance, assurance or risk management in regulated environments.
• Strong analytical skills with ability to identify risks and provide practical recommendations.
• Excellent written reports and governance documentation.

Responsibilities

• Support implementation and continuous improvement of governance and assurance frameworks across Commercial and Procurement Services.
• Provide expert advice on governance requirements, compliance and best practice.
• Review procurement business cases, reports and commercial documentation for risks and decisions.
• Manage the procurement assurance pipeline and coordinate governance activities.
• Support risk identification, assessment and escalation as required.
• Develop guidance, toolkits and resources to promote consistent standards.
• Lead and develop team members while driving continuous improvement.
