Job summary

Ground Control is seeking an Assistant Buyer in Billericay, Essex for a 12-month fixed-term contract. The role supports the Landscape Design & Energy division, ensuring materials, equipment and services are on hand to keep work moving.

Hybrid working with initial five days in the office, then around three days per week. You will build supplier relationships, manage orders, source materials, and coordinate with contract managers to ensure timely deliveries and value.

Qualifications

• Experience in purchasing, procurement or related fields could be useful, but other backgrounds welcome.
• Organised and able to manage a busy workload.
• Confident communicator with suppliers and internal teams over the phone.
• Proactive, self-sufficient and able to take ownership.
• Good commercial awareness to compare prices and assess value.
• Strong attention to detail with purchase orders, deliveries and supplier data.
• Willingness to learn new systems; Office or ERP experience helpful.

Responsibilities

• Manage purchase orders from start to finish, ensuring accuracy and progress to delivery.
• Source materials, equipment, plant, consumables and services from suitable suppliers.
• Build strong relationships with suppliers, chase deliveries and resolve issues.
• Collaborate with contract managers and internal teams on pricing and lead times.
• Obtain and compare supplier quotations to support informed purchasing decisions.
• Handle delivery, invoice and PO queries, resolving issues with suppliers and teams.
• Respond to changing requirements and adapt priorities accordingly.
• Keep purchasing records accurate and up to date for easy reference.
