Job summary

Thames Water, the UK’s leading water and wastewater company, is seeking an Operations Process Technician based at Bourton-on-the-Water STW. You will join frontline operations to monitor, maintain, and optimise plant performance while adhering to high health and safety standards.

The role involves working Monday–Friday 7:30–15:36 (38 hours) with weekend work on a rota and on-call payments. Benefits include a strong pension, 24 days holiday (rising with service), and training packages.

Responsibilities

• Ensure sites run safely, efficiently and within permit specifications to protect the environment.

• Own health and safety; escalate concerns or resolve where possible.
• Collate and report data to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance.
• Work one weekend every 6 weeks once on full pattern.

You will be part of the frontline operations team that covers the picturesque Cotswolds with its main base at Bourton on the Water STW. The role is an essential front-line role, which the business simply cannot operate without you. Every day is different, you will be working in all weather conditions carrying out a range of tasks, to ensure the essential functions of our wastewater treatment works operate to maintain the supply to our customers and protect the environment.

Working Pattern or hours

Monday-Friday 7:30-15:36, 38 hours per week including working on a call‑out rota where you will receive additional payment.

What you’ll be doing as a Process Technician

• Ensuring our sites are running safely, efficiently and within permitted site specifications to protect the environment.
• You will be responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and maintaining equipment and reporting any defective items to ensure a swift repair or attempting a first-time fix where possible.
• You will be expected to take ownership of your own and colleagues' health and safety by escalating any concerns to your manager or resolving them yourself where possible and appropriate.
• Collating and reporting of data to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance.
• Once on the full working pattern you will be working 1 weekend every 6 weeks

You do not need a background in the Water industry. We would welcome applications from candidates outside of the sector, bringing fresh perspectives and ideas, but you must be:

• Comfortable working outdoors, potentially in all weather conditions.
• Prepared to work within the company’s rota of a 7-day working week and participate on a standby rota.
• Part of a team that delivers excellent performance by understanding how you affect the overall mission of Thames Water.
• Have a good sense of humour, because of what you will be working with and not to be too squeamish.
• Adaptable, flexible, patient, reliable and self-motivated.
• Good with time management.
• Confident to work effectively and efficiently on your own.
• Keen to learn and operate complex processes with high-quality controls.
• Able to complete basic tasks on a computer e.g., be able to input site performance data and view their day's work via a hand-held device.

What you should bring to the role

• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience in delivering against challenging upper-quartile business targets and performance commitments.
