Main duties of the job
  1. Provide medicines management services to patients within the prison, supported by a prison service pharmacist.
  2. Administer medicines to patients against valid prescriptions, ensuring correct intake and providing advice on medicine use and healthy lifestyles.
  3. Dispense prescriptions and stock items, supervise dispensary assistants, and undertake stock control tasks such as stock top-ups and expiry date reviews.

Job responsibilities
  1. Provide medicines optimisation services within the prison.
  2. Administer medicines during scheduled times on a rota basis.
  3. Conduct medicines reconciliation for new admissions.
  4. Supervise dispensary assistants and ensure SOP adherence.
  5. Assist with writing and updating medicines optimisation SOPs.

Additional Information:

All applicants must undergo National Security Vetting. You will need to provide proof of right to work, ID, address, and, if applicable, overseas police checks or certificates of good conduct. A 5-year address history is required, and additional documentation may be needed based on residency history.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
  • NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent
  • GPhC registration as a pharmacy technician
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Working towards Accredited Checking or MM Technician Certificate
Experience
  • At least 2 years' pharmacy experience
  • Previous prison or mental health pharmacy experience (preferred)
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of SOPs in pharmacy practice
  • Proficiency with pharmacy software and Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of mental health and substance misuse treatments
  • Problem-solving skills and initiative
Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires a DBS check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exceptions Order 1975).
