Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent required.
• Registration with GPhC as a pharmacy technician is essential.
• At least 2 years of experience in pharmacy is necessary.

Main duties of the job

• Providing medicines management services to patients within the prison with support from a prison service pharmacist.
• Administering medicines to patients against valid prescriptions, ensuring proper usage, and advising on medication use and healthy lifestyles.
• Dispensing prescriptions and stock items, supervising assistants, and managing stock control, including stock top-ups and expiry date reviews.

Job responsibilities

• Providing medicines optimization services in the prison.
• Administering medicines during designated times on a 7-day rota.
• Conducting medicines reconciliation upon prisoner admission.
• Supervising dispensary assistants and ensuring high standards of work in all settings.
• Supporting the Senior Prisons Technician with SOPs related to medicines optimization.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

• NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
• Registration with GPhC as a pharmacy technician
• Evidence of CPD
• Working towards Accredited Checking or MM Technician Certificate

Experience

• At least 2 years’ experience in pharmacy
• Previous experience in prison or mental health pharmacy is desirable

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of SOPs
• Proficiency with pharmacy management software and Microsoft Office
• Understanding of mental health and substance misuse treatments
• Problem-solving skills and initiative
