Job summary

Change Grow Live is seeking a Recovery Worker for its prison-based team at HMP Cookham Wood in West Kent. The role focuses on supporting individuals from entry through treatment and recovery within the secure estate, delivering trauma-informed psychosocial interventions and working with healthcare teams to reduce harm.

The position requires experience in substance misuse, ideally in a prison or criminal justice setting, and a commitment to safeguarding and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of substance misuse.
• Experience within a prison/criminal justice setting preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with good IT capability.
• Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise competing demands.
• Sound understanding of mental health interventions, services and best practice.
• Strong partnership-working skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to manage change while keeping service users at the centre.
• Commitment to information governance, safeguarding and confidentiality.
• Willingness to learn and contribute to others' development.

Responsibilities

• Support service users from initial engagement through treatment and recovery.
• Deliver psychosocial interventions as part of the prison Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service.
• Work with healthcare providers and prison colleagues within an integrated model.
• Advocate for service users who may be unwilling or unable to engage in treatment.
• Proactively follow up missed appointments to maximise engagement.
• Contribute to risk management processes, including ACCT procedures where appropriate.
• Support social reintegration by promoting recovery and peer support.
