Job summary

Matchtech Group is seeking a Senior Hardware Systems Engineer for a contract role on-site at Broad Oak, Portsmouth, supporting complex maritime programmes. You will design, test, and install electrical/hardware systems and contribute to FAT(E), EMC, and environmental considerations.

The role requires experience in hardware engineering and COTS components, with a proactive, team-oriented approach. On-site in Portsmouth with a demanding multi-project environment and rigorous configuration control

Senior Hardware Systems Engineer (Contract) - Portsmouth (Broad Oak)

A leading organisation in the defence and security sector is looking for a Senior Hardware Systems Engineer to join their team on-site at Broad Oak, Portsmouth. This is a contract role supporting complex maritime programmes, covering hardware design, test, installation and in-service engineering support.

• Rate: £45.00 PAYE or £60.69 per hour Umbrella

What you'll be doing

• Producing design, test and installation documentation
• Supporting design proving, including environmental and EMC considerations
• Investigating and resolving hardware/design issues
• Designing and building electrical/hardware systems to achieve Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT(E))
• Supporting development systems and related engineering activities
• Installing and setting to work hardware onboard ship
• Working to configuration control processes and maintaining baselines

What we're looking for (essential)

• Experience in a hardware engineering domain
• Experience developing equipment using COTS hardware components
• Good understanding of blade and PC-based technologies
• Proactive, can-do approach with flexibility to support across the team

Desirable experience

• Working in a large, complex multi-project environment
• COTS enclosures (units/cabinets), design, wiring schedules, power distribution
• Background in defence or another highly regulated industry

Qualifications

• Academic qualification in Engineering (or related STEM)
• Professional registration is advantageous
