Job description

Are you a Rail Telecoms Design Engineer looking for more responsibility, progression and the opportunity to help shape a growing in-house design team?

Do you have strong experience designing station telecoms systems including CCTV, PA/LLPA and CIS?

Salary: Senior £60,000 - £69,000; Principal £75,000 - £90,000
Package: Car/company car allowance + private healthcare + pension + excellent benefits
Location: York preferred, with Warrington or Cumbernauld also considered, Hybrid: Typically 3 days office / 2 days home

I am recruiting for a Principal Telecoms Engineer to join my client’s growing in-house rail design team. This is a key senior appointment, providing technical leadership and telecoms oversight across the wider business while supporting the continued development of the existing team.

The design function currently consists of around 55 people across multiple engineering disciplines and has experienced its busiest year to date. Following continued growth, my client is looking to significantly expand the team further, with telecoms a key area of focus.

This role would suit an experienced Principal Engineer or a strong Senior Engineer ready to step up, provided you can demonstrate the technical capability, client management and leadership experience required.

Essential Requirements:

• Good knowledge of station information and surveillance systems, including CCTV, PA/LLPA and CIS
• Experience delivering telecoms design within a rail environment
• MUST be CEng for Principal, IEng for Senior
• Strong technical leadership and engineering assurance capability
• Experience managing clients and communicating with senior stakeholders
• Ability to lead, support and develop other engineers
• Understanding of how to scope and price design work, including associated risks and opportunities
• Ability to review and sense-check designs produced by others
• Strong understanding of relevant rail standards and engineering processes

Desirable experience

• Design & Build or contractor-side rail experience
• Previous Principal Engineer experience
• CRE Design experience or experience working towards CRE responsibilities
• PE/DPE experience
• Experience with station improvement projects
• Wider telecoms experience including fibre and communications infrastructure
• Experience supporting tenders and work-winning activity
