Job summary

Maldon District Council is seeking a Principal Technical Lead to join the Technical Support Team in Maldon. You will oversee day-to-day management of Technical Support and Validation Officers and act as an escalation point for complex enquiries.

This temporary, full-time role requires strong experience in Development Management or Building Control, along with coaching, collaboration and process-improvement skills, to support public service delivery.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in Development Management and/or Building Control environments.
• Confidence managing workflows, priorities and competing demands.
• Ability to coach, guide and communicate clearly to develop others.
• Experience contributing to business or process improvement initiatives.
• Customer-focused approach with ability to handle complex enquiries.
• Good working knowledge of planning support systems and digital tools.

Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day management, workflow and prioritisation of Technical Support and Validation Officers.
• Act as a point of escalation for complex or sensitive customer and internal enquiries.
• Help drive service improvement, consistency and resilience across Development Management processes.
• Support staff development, performance management and training.
• Contribute to improved systems, digital services and customer self-service.
• Work collaboratively across teams and services to support statutory and corporate objectives.
