Job summary

SYSTRA in the UK is seeking a Principal System Safety Engineer to lead system safety, interoperability and regulatory compliance across major rail infrastructure programmes. You will work within a multidisciplinary environment, providing strategic leadership from design through construction, commissioning and entry into service.

You will collaborate with Network Rail, clients, delivery partners and regulators to ensure railway systems meet safety requirements and interoperability regulations.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree with Chartered status.
• Experience delivering major infrastructure projects through full lifecycle.
• Strong knowledge of CSM-RA and Railway Interoperability Regulations.
• Understanding of UK rail design standards and regulatory interfaces.
• Experience with regulatory bodies (e.g., ORR) and stakeholders.
• Proficiency with requirements management tools.
• Familiarity with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
• Proven leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead system safety and interoperability activities across programmes.
• Develop and manage delivery strategy for multiple operators/end users.
• Manage the System Safety and Interoperability Team.
• Coordinate with Network Rail, clients, contractors and regulators.
• Oversee CS M-RA compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintain Hazard Records and safety plans, safety justifications.
• Coordinate and review evidence for safety and interoperability.
