Job summary

Marks & Spencer's Software Engineering team invites a Principal Software Engineer to provide senior technical leadership across the International Fashion, Home & Beauty domain, guiding mission-critical platforms for international growth.

You will set technical direction, champion clean code and DevOps practices, and collaborate with engineering, product, architecture and delivery teams to design scalable, secure solutions for stores, digital channels and partner ecosystems.

Qualifications

• Significant experience providing technical leadership across complex software engineering environments.
• Strong expertise in software engineering fundamentals including clean code and architecture.
• Experience shaping technology strategy and implementation aligned with business objectives.
• Deep knowledge of cloud and platform engineering, including Kubernetes, security and observability.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps ownership models and testing strategies.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management across senior teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical excellence across the full software development lifecycle for core product features and platforms.
• Define scalable integration patterns for product, price and availability flows and marketplace integrations.
• Shape technology strategy and governance to align with long-term architectural direction.
• Promote clean code, architecture, automation and DevOps practices to improve delivery quality.
• Provide technical leadership to internal teams and external delivery partners, aligning multi-team delivery.
