Job summary

Marks & Spencer in London is seeking a visionary Head of Software Engineering to lead the Personalisation team, shaping technology strategy and driving enterprise‑wide engineering practices.

You’ll guide multi‑disciplinary squads, partner with Product, Data Science and Delivery, and build a modern, secure software platform focused on high performance, reliability and customer‑centric innovation.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on experience as a senior software engineer with breadth across front-end, back-end, APIs and cloud.
• Experience leading large product areas with multiple teams.
• Knowledge of Personalisation, Recommendation and Search concepts in e-commerce is a plus.
• Proven ability to design and evolve complex systems and drive architectural decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire Engineering Managers and teams to high-quality standards.
• Shape strategy and roadmaps with Product, Delivery and Technology leadership.
• Drive DevOps, CI/CD, automation, and modern engineering practices.
• Own product group health, OKRs, reliability, and operational support.
• Champion innovation and agile ways of working across the organisation.
• Recruit, onboard and mentor senior engineers and engineering managers.
