Maxwell Bond is assisting a leading robotics company in the UK that develops AI-driven manipulation for logistics and automation. The Principal Software Engineer will shape software architecture, lead cross-functional teams and deliver robust robotics software for real-world environments.

The role requires deep robotics expertise, production-grade software experience, and strong leadership to drive complex initiatives from concept to deployment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science or related field, with 10+ years' software development experience or Master's with 8+ years' experience
• Expert Python and strong C++
• Deep understanding of parallel and distributed systems, asynchronous programming and concurrency
• Experience designing production-grade robotic software for manipulation, including motion planning and multi-arm coordination
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and gRPC services for distributed robotics systems
• Strong knowledge of software architecture and design patterns with long-term evolution of complex systems
• Ability to define technical direction and deliver robust, maintainable software
• Experience with Git workflows, Jira, and automated testing (unit/integration/simulation/HIL)
• Excellent communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve software architecture and long-term roadmaps for robotic manipulation systems
• Develop and deploy high-performance manipulation software in production
• Lead motion planning, kinematics, control strategies, multi-arm coordination and environment representation
• Drive architecture reviews, code reviews and engineering planning
• Architect simulation environments, testing frameworks and hardware-in-the-loop workflows
• Diagnose and resolve complex robotics software issues across hardware and software boundaries
• Collaborate with hardware, perception, systems engineering, product and software teams
• Mentor engineers across experience levels and communicate technical direction to leadership
