Job summary

Maxwell Bond is seeking a Principal / Staff Mechanical Engineer to stay hands-on, lead mechanical design of complex robotic systems from concept through production, and take ownership of hardware.

You will work across dynamic machines, perform system dynamics, modelling, FEA, and collaborate with electrical, controls, software teams to deliver production-ready documentation.

Location: Massachusetts. On-site. Full-time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
• Significant experience designing complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Track record of taking hardware from concept to production.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanical design and hands-on engineering.
• Expertise in system dynamics, modelling, simulation and vibration analysis.
• Experience with multi-axis actuation and motion systems.
• Experience performing FEA and load calculations.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and engineering drawing documentation (GD&T).

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of complex electro-mechanical and robotic systems.
• Design mechanisms, actuators, tooling and assemblies for real-world applications.
• Take designs from concept through prototyping, testing, iteration and production.
• Perform system dynamics, kinematic analysis, load calculations and vibration analysis.
• Develop FBDs and governing equations for complex systems.
• Use simulation, modelling and FEA to validate designs.
• Specify motors, actuators, encoders, sensors and other components.
• Collaborate with electrical, controls and software teams during integration.
