Job summary

Cambridge Consultants is seeking a Quantum Algorithms Lead to translate advances in quantum computing into real-world value. You will shape technical capabilities, provide direction, and lead a specialist team delivering analyses, software prototypes, and recommendations for clients.

You will line-manage junior staff, engage with clients to clarify objectives, and collaborate across disciplines to turn insights into tangible outcomes.

Qualifications

• Substantial industry or research experience in quantum algorithms.
• Broad technical knowledge of quantum computing and its use cases.
• Experience applying quantum computing to real-world problems.
• Demonstrable experience leading complex technical work and teams.
• Strong Python programming skills and ability to review code.
• Ability to translate research into clear, rigorous conclusions.
• Experience producing technical reports and presentations.
• Ability to mentor graduate and mid-career staff.
• Degree or equivalent in CS/Physics/Engineering/Mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for quantum algorithm and quantum software projects, from early exploration through delivery.
• Lead programmes of technical work, including planning, coordinating team members, managing risks, and assuring quality.
• Hands-on software and quantum algorithm development, literature reviews, and technical reports.
• Lead and review the work of quantum algorithm developers, providing guidance and ensuring high standards.
• Line manage and mentor junior members of the group, supporting their development.
• Engage directly with clients to understand objectives and explain complex topics.
• Develop the group's technical capabilities, support recruitment, and build a strong team.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, software developers, designers, and commercial staff on project delivery and opportunities.
• Contribute to open-source software for quantum resource estimation.
• Communicate insights through demonstrations, publications, open-source software, and presentations.
