Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Principal Automotive Powertrain Engineer for a leading automotive client in Randburg, Gauteng. You will direct powertrain design, development, calibration, and optimization across ICE, hybrid, and EV propulsion while mentoring engineers and guiding strategic projects.

Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and suppliers; drive technology roadmaps, ensure safety and emissions compliance, and stay at the forefront of electrification and alternative fuels.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in automotive powertrain engineering with leadership roles.
• Deep expertise in ICE, EV powertrains, and hybrid systems.
• Experience with powertrain simulation tools (GT-SUITE, Amesim, MATLAB/Simulink).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and validation of advanced powertrain systems (engines, transmissions, electric motors, battery systems).
• Define architecture, targets, and roadmaps for powertrain technology.
• Oversee calibration and optimization of powertrain control systems for performance, efficiency, and emissions.
• Manage development projects from concept to production with budget adherence.
• Mentor and guide a team of powertrain engineers and collaborate cross-functionally.
