Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer to direct a team in Randburg for the design, development, and integration of advanced automotive mechanical systems. The role emphasizes leadership, innovation, and delivering projects from concept to production.

You will oversee design, testing, and optimization while collaborating across electrical, software, and manufacturing functions to ensure seamless integration and adherence to industry standards.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within automotive.
• Proven expertise in automotive mechanical system design, analysis, and testing.
• Proficiency with CAD software (CATIA, Siemens NX) and simulation tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS).

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers in design and development of automotive mechanical systems.
• Oversee the design process from concept through detailed design, prototyping, and validation.
• Develop and implement project plans, timelines, and resource allocation for mechanical initiatives.
• Conduct performance analysis, simulations (FEA, CFD), and testing to optimize durability, efficiency, and safety.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless system integration.
• Ensure designs comply with automotive standards (ISO, SAE) and regulatory requirements.
• Identify emerging technologies and materials to enhance product performance.
• Manage supplier relationships and technical specifications for outsourced components.
• Present findings and proposals to senior management and stakeholders.
• Foster continuous improvement and technical excellence within the team.
