Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design across major water and wastewater projects in the UK. You will mentor engineers, coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams and ensure best-practice standards are applied.

The role focuses on feasibility, design, construction and commissioning activities, helping deliver sustainable water infrastructure and reliable services for communities while supporting project lifecycle requirements.

Qualifications

• Chartered Mechanical Engineer or above.
• Experience in water/wastewater projects preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design across water and wastewater projects.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers and project teams; mentor junior staff.
• Coordinate with Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process engineers to ensure design coherence.
• Develop mechanical design deliverables (P&IDs, valve schedules, pumps, tanks, equipment, pipework).
• Engage with clients and ensure adherence to asset standards and best practices.
