Job summary

Hoare Lea in Glasgow is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead complex building services designs across Scotland and the UK. You will own delivery from inception to completion, manage internal teams and coordinate with disciplines and external consultants.

Qualifications

• Chartered status is preferred for this senior technical leadership role.
• Proven in-depth technical knowledge in mechanical/building services design.
• Experience leading integrated design teams on complex projects.
• Excellent client-facing skills with professional demeanour.
• Strong understanding of regulations and design guides.
• Proven ability to manage design teams and deliver to deadlines.
• Commercial awareness including cost monitoring and risk management.
• Efficient prioritisation and planning across multiple demands.
• Strong written and spoken English; external representation experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design delivery for significant and complex schemes, achieving objectives and quality.
• Define and agree the design brief with clients and manage relationships.
• Represent Hoare Lea at project meetings and promote services.
• Manage and motivate internal project teams; chair internal meetings.
• Delegate and review work; support professional development.
• Monitor project expenditure, costs and resource needs; report to team leader.
• Identify and manage project and commercial risks and procurement impacts.
• Ensure deliverables meet quality standards, technical accuracy and deadlines.
• Share knowledge across the business and collaborate with other professionals.
• Communicate effectively at all levels internally and externally.
