Job summary

Hoare Lea in Scotland seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead high-quality, sustainable building services design across major projects. You will join the Electrical team based in Glasgow or Edinburgh, delivering integration across Scotland and the wider UK with a strong client focus.

This hands-on role requires Chartered status or equivalent, proven leadership of complex schemes and proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Dialux and OM Electrical. The position supports flexible and hybrid working.

Qualifications

• Qualified and recognised in the industry, preferably with Chartered status.
• Proven in-depth technical knowledge in electrical/building services design and regulations.
• Strong understanding of complementary disciplines and leading design teams.
• Excellent client facing skills with ability to manage difficult situations.
• Demonstrable experience leading design teams on complex projects and delivering on timescales.
• Commercial awareness: experience monitoring project costs and risks.
• IT literate with proficiency in industry software (Revit, AutoCAD, Dialux, OM Electrical).
• Committed to CPD and supporting career growth of others.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design delivery for significant and complex schemes, ensuring technical quality and design objectives.
• Define and agree the design brief with clients and manage client/consultant relationships.
• Represent Hoare Lea at project meetings and promote services for client projects.
• Manage and motivate the internal project team; chair internal project meetings.
• Delegate and check work; contribute to development of team members.
• Monitor project costs and resource requirements; report to the team leader.
• Identify and manage commercial risks and procurement impacts.
• Ensure deliverables meet quality standards, technical accuracy and deadlines.
• Share technical knowledge across the business and collaborate with other professionals.
