Job summary

OCS UK & Ireland seeks a Principal HV Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design across renewable energy, power infrastructure, industrial and utility projects throughout the UK. Based at the Hyde office, you’ll support ICP projects for IDNOs and private clients, delivering technical proposals and engineering support.

You will combine hands-on design with leadership, mentoring juniors and coordinating with clients, DNOs, suppliers and delivery teams across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Chartered Electrical Engineer status or working towards chartership.
• Experience designing electrical distribution, switchgear and substation systems across HV, MV and LV.
• Experience in renewable energy, industrial or utility projects.
• Knowledge of British and IEC standards and DNO G81 for 11kV/33kV/132kV.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and detailed electrical drawings.
• Experience preparing equipment specs, protection schemes and earthing designs.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and mentor junior staff.
• Willingness to travel occasionally across the UK.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to electrical design, power studies and proposals.
• Design HV, MV and LV distribution systems with switchgear and substation plant.
• Produce electrical drawings using AutoCAD (single-line, schematics, layouts).
• Develop substation layouts, cable routes, earthing and LV services.
• Prepare specs and equipment schedules for switchgear/transformers.
• Review proposals and drawings against project specs.
• Manage interfaces with clients, network operators, suppliers and internal teams.
• Manage multiple projects at different development stages.
• Mentor junior engineers.
