Job summary

AECOM is recruiting a Principal Electrical Engineer for HV Substation Design (UK & Ireland). The role sits in hybrid work and involves leading design delivery on major energy projects across the UK & Ireland.

You will produce HV substation layouts, guide FEED and detailed design, engage with clients and partners, and mentor junior engineers within a dynamic Transmission and Distribution team.

Qualifications

• Electrical engineering degree required.
• Experience in HV substation design is essential.
• Client/facing and stakeholder engagement experience.
• FEED and detailed design experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Produce primary plant layouts for HV substations.
• Lead engineering design input to major infrastructure projects.
• Undertake pre-construction activities, including optimum cable routing considerations.
• Prepare HV plant equipment specifications and related drawings.
• Coordinate with technology specialists and external partners.
• Draft tender specs and evaluate bids.
• Provide design assurance during tender and supplier meetings.
• Support construction with review of vendor designs and commissioning.
• Maintain trusted relationships with key clients.
• Mentor junior team members and promote knowledge sharing.
