Job summary

Morson Human Resources Limited is seeking a Principal Engineering Manager in the Water and Utilities Engineering sector. You will provide strategic technical leadership across complex civil design projects, acting as a technical authority for high-value decisions.

You will guide design teams, ensure buildable, safe, and sustainable solutions, and align delivery with programme and client objectives while maturing capability and knowledge within the team.

Qualifications

• ICE-accredited civil engineering degree or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer status with ICE/CIWEM or equivalent.
• Typically 10–20 years of civil design experience in water/utilities.
• Proven leadership of multidisciplinary design teams.
• Knowledge of UK standards, CDM 2015 and water-sector norms.
• Ability to make authoritative technical decisions and write clear reports.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• IOSH Managing Safely training.
• Eligibility for site access certification.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for discipline and multidisciplinary design delivery.
• Approve and assure designs, calculations, specs, reports and risk assessments.
• Act as technical authority for high-risk decisions.
• Support project teams with design planning, sequencing and resource allocation.
• Ensure integrated, buildable designs across disciplines.
• Align solutions with programme, budget and client requirements.
• Maintain compliance with UK legislation and CDM 2015.
• Lead design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP and risk-management activities.
• Promote safe-by-design and manage engineering risks.
• Coach and mentor engineers at all career stages.
• Contribute to capability and knowledge management; drive digital engineering and low-carbon design.
