Job summary

Sweco is recruiting a Principal Engineer/Technical Manager for its Edinburgh highways team. The role offers flexible working with at least three days in the office and adjusted start/end times.

You will lead major road schemes, coordinate multidisciplinary inputs, and drive safe, sustainable design across local, regional and national projects. You will mentor engineers, engage with clients, and manage projects from inception to detailed design, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule adherence.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering or equivalent.
• CEng certification or equivalent professional recognition.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for a range of stakeholders.
• Ability to lead project teams and develop junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage roads and infrastructure projects, ensuring quality, safety and standards.
• Design management and coordination to deliver integrated solutions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable designs.
• Ensure deliverables are within timescales and budgets.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to understand needs and provide expert advice.
• Prepare and review technical reports, feasibility studies and design documentation.
• Drive technical excellence across project delivery.
