Job summary

Turner & Townsend in Birmingham is seeking a Principal Designer with an architectural/design background to integrate health and safety principles throughout the design and construction process. You will act as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations and support clients in understanding and discharging their legal duties.

Qualifications

• Degree in Architecture or related built environment discipline.
• Experience as Principal Designer under the CDM Regulations.
• Membership of APS and/or RIBA/CIAT/ARB/IOSH or equivalent.
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or willingness to obtain.
• Strong understanding of RIBA Plan of Work and risk management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Apply architectural and design experience to support the integration of health and safety principles throughout the design and construction process.
• Act as Principal Designer under the CDM Regulations and support clients in understanding and discharging their legal duties.
• Review and coordinate design information to identify, eliminate or reduce foreseeable health and safety risks.
• Work collaboratively with architects, designers, engineers, contractors and clients to ensure effective design risk management.
• Understand and develop existing systems and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of CDM and H&S services.
• Establish positive relationships with existing and prospective clients, becoming a trusted advisor on design risk management and regulatory compliance.
• Manage commissions where responsibility is assigned, ensuring client expectations, scope of service and internal business management requirements are effectively delivered.
• Carry out health and safety reviews, audits and inspections on behalf of clients where required.
• Liaise proactively with SHQ and wider Turner & Townsend colleagues to support team effectiveness, consistency and project profitability.
• Compile and review Pre-Construction Information, Design Risk Registers and Health & Safety Files.
