Job summary

Turner & Townsend in Bristol is seeking a Principal Designer to lead CDM and health & safety integration across design and construction projects. The role draws on an architectural/design background to ensure compliant design solutions and effective project delivery.

Key requirements include Principal Designer duties under CDM Regulations, APS/RIBA/CIAT/ARB/IOSH membership, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, and strong skills in design risk management and stakeholder collaboration.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in built environment discipline
• Experience in architectural practice, multidisciplinary consultancy or design-led construction
• Demonstrable Principal Designer duties under CDM Regulations
• Membership of APS and/or professional bodies (RIBA/CIAT/ARB/IOSH)
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or willingness to obtain
• Strong understanding of RIBA Plan of Work, design processes and risk management principles
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Strong planning and workload management abilities
• Extensive knowledge of construction industry and CDM Regulations

Responsibilities

• Apply architectural and design experience to integrate health and safety throughout design and construction
• Act as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations and advise clients on duties
• Review and coordinate design information to identify health and safety risks
• Collaborate with architects, designers, engineers, contractors and clients on design risk management
• Develop systems to improve CDM and health & safety services
• Establish relationships with clients and act as trusted advisor on design risk and regulatory compliance
• Manage commissions and ensure delivery of scope and profitability
• Carry out health and safety reviews, audits and inspections as required
• Coordinate with SHQ and Turner & Townsend teams to support project profitability
• Prepare and review Pre-Construction Information, Design Risk Registers and Health & Safety Files
