Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking a Principal Designer for our London office to support health and safety integration across design and construction. The successful candidate will bring architectural or design experience and a strong understanding of CDM Regulations.

Key responsibilities include coordinating design information, liaising with architects, engineers and clients, and ensuring risk-driven design solutions meet regulatory duties while delivering excellent service to clients.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work, design processes and risk management principles.
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or willingness to obtain.
• Membership of APS and/or RIBA/CIAT/ARB/IOSH or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Apply architectural and design experience to integrate health and safety principles throughout the design and construction process.
• Act as Principal Designer under the CDM Regulations and support clients in understanding and discharging their legal duties.
• Review and coordinate design information to identify, eliminate or reduce foreseeable health and safety risks.
• Work collaboratively with architects, designers, engineers, contractors and clients to ensure effective design risk management.
• Understand and develop existing systems and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of CDM and H&S services.
• Establish positive relationships with existing and prospective clients, becoming a trusted advisor on design risk management and regulatory compliance.
• Manage commissions where responsibility is assigned, ensuring client expectations, scope of service and internal business management requirements are effectively delivered.
• Carry out health and safety reviews, audits and inspections on behalf of clients where required.
• Liaise proactively with SHQ and wider Turner & Townsend colleagues to support team effectiveness, consistency and project profitability.
• Compile and review Pre-Construction Information, Design Risk Registers and Health & Safety Files
