Mesa Quantum in London, UK, is seeking a Principal Hardware Engineer to own the board-level control electronics for our chip-scale atomic clock. This hands-on role covers analog and RF design from schematic to layout, bring-up, characterization, and production.

You will lead the hardware design, own the analog front end, microwave synthesis, and laser drive electronics, interfacing with firmware and systems teams. Reports to the CTO; full-time, on-site in London.

Qualifikationen

• 10+ years of board-level analog and RF hardware design, including at least one product from prototype to volume production.
• Experience designing multi-layer boards with mixed analog, RF, and digital circuits, with clear stack‑up, impedance control, grounding and thermal management.
• Proficiency in professional PCB design tools (Altium, Cadence, KiCad).
• Deep expertise in low-noise analog signal conditioning and noise budgeting for precision timing systems.
• RF design through GHz frequencies, with PLLs, VCOs and phase noise considerations.
• Hands-on bench skills with oscilloscopes, spectrum/phase noise analyzers and network analyzers.

Aufgaben

• Design and lay out multi‑layer precision analog and RF circuit boards end‑to‑end from schematic to fabrication and bring‑up.
• Own the precision analog front end including photodetector conditioning and low‑noise amplification.
• Design the microwave synthesis chain (PLL/VCO) and reference distribution.
• Develop laser drive and thermal control electronics for the physics package.
• Define and drive hardware design standards, reviews, and manufacturability for scale‑up.
