Job summary

Mesa Quantum Systems is hiring a Principal Hardware Engineer to own board-level control electronics for our chip-scale atomic clock. The role is hands-on, leading analog and RF circuit design, from schematic through layout, bring-up, and production, on-site in London.

You will own the analog front end, microwave synthesis chain, laser drive electronics, and the boards that tie them together, mentoring a small hardware team and setting hardware design standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of board-level analog and RF hardware design, with at least one product from prototype to volume production.
• Experience mixing analog, RF, and digital circuits on multi‑layer boards: stack-up, impedance, grounding, shielding, and thermal management.
• Proficiency in professional PCB design tools: Altium, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, or KiCad.

Responsibilities

• Design and lay out multi-layer precision analog and RF boards from schematic to production.
• Own the analog front end, microwave synthesis chain, laser drive and thermal control electronics.
• Architect generations of control electronics to reduce size, power, and noise.
• Build characterization protocols, test fixtures, and automation for clock performance targets.
• Mentor engineers and lead design reviews.
