A fantastic specialist Primary School based in Whitehaven are in need of an experienced SEND Primary Teaching Assistant to join them in September. The ideal person for the role will provide 1:1 support and also class support for a group of young people with Autism and Learning Disabilities. Some of the young people can present with challenging behaviour.

The role and ideal person:

• Will have previous experience working with young people or adults on the Autistic Spectrum – they may have knowledge of PECS or Makaton.
• Will be required to implement specific teaching programmes as instructed by a speech and language therapist and occupational therapist.
• Will also be responsible for ensuring the successful integration of the pupils into the class and school.
• Will be kind and caring, as well as having a proactive and nurturing attitude.
• Alongside the staff, will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

To be considered for this role you will need:

• Experience with ASD.
• Previous experience working with young people or adults with Autism.
• PECS and Makaton – not essential but highly desirable.
