Job summary

St Mary's CE VA Primary Academy is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support high-quality teaching and learning across the school. You will work with teachers to deliver structured lessons, run targeted interventions, and help create a calm, inclusive environment that promotes wellbeing and positive behaviour.

The role involves supporting pupils with additional needs, assisting with assessments, and supervising classes during short-term teacher absence or PPA.

Qualifications

• Excellent behaviour management skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Experience of working with children in a primary setting
• Experience of supporting learning in small groups and/or whole classes
• Understanding safeguarding responsibilities in schools
• Punctual and reliable
• Calm and resilient approach
• Passion for helping young people progress and develop
• Commitment to the Christian ethos and values of the school
• Good basic education with at least a Grade 4/C in English & Maths

Responsibilities

• Work alongside teachers to deliver high-quality learning experiences that enable all pupils to achieve their potential
• Support curriculum delivery using evidence-informed approaches
• Foster nurturing relationships and support emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour
• Champion inclusion for pupils with SEND & disadvantaged learners
• Deliver learning activities and supervise classes during short-term teacher absence or PPA cover
• Deliver targeted interventions and support programmes
• Use strategies to help pupils retain knowledge and develop understanding
• Support pupils in developing metacognition and learning how they learn
• Assist with assessments administration and supervision
