Job summary

GSL Education is seeking an experienced Primary Teaching Assistant in Lewisham to support teachers, help with literacy and numeracy, and manage classroom activities.

The role requires prior experience with children, a clear Enhanced DBS, GCSEs in Maths and English, and a strong safeguarding understanding. It involves 1-to-1 and small-group support within a primary setting.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience of working with children is required.
• A Clear Enhanced DBS check or willing to arrange one.
• GCSE A*-C or equivalent in Maths and English.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers with classroom learning and behaviour management.
• Provide 1-to-1 and small-group support, including for SEND pupils.
• Assist with literacy, numeracy, reading and classroom activities.
• Prepare learning resources and help maintain an organised classroom.
• Supervise pupils during lessons, break times, lunch and school activities.
• Promote positive behaviour, engagement and pupil wellbeing.
• Follow safeguarding, health and safety and school policies.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and wider school staff.

The ideal candidates will have previous experience working in a primary school or classroom environment and be confident supporting pupils with their learning, development and day-to-day needs.
