Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant to support pupils across Key Stage 1 and 2 in West Sussex or Surrey. You will work closely with class teachers to guide small groups and provide 1:1 support, helping pupils build confidence and literacy/numeracy skills.

The role offers flexible full-time or part-time placements with weekly pay and access to a local education consultant. DBS updates are welcome or can be completed on joining.

Qualifications

• Proven experience supporting primary school-aged children.
• Good understanding of KS1 and KS2 curricula.
• Patient, approachable and proactive communication style.
• Ability to build positive relationships with young pupils and teaching teams.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one).

Responsibilities

• Deliver small-group interventions to develop literacy and numeracy skills.
• Provide targeted 1:1 support during lessons.
• Foster an inclusive classroom where every child is encouraged.
• Assist classroom management, prepare learning spaces and organize resources.

Requirements

Must-Haves (Essential)

• Proven experience supporting primary school-aged children in an educational, childcare, or youth setting.
• Good foundational understanding of the primary curriculum (KS1 & KS2).
• Patient, approachable, and proactive communication style.
• Ability to build positive relationships with young pupils and teaching teams.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one).

Nice-to-Haves (Preferred)

• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent degree).
• Prior experience running early phonics, reading, or math interventions.
• Understanding of standard classroom behavior management strategies.
