Job summary

Smile Education is helping schools in Moseley recruit a dedicated Primary School Teaching Assistant for a part-time, long-term role. The position supports Early Years to Year 6, with flexible hours to suit your availability.

The role involves assisting teachers, supporting pupil development, and maintaining a positive classroom atmosphere. Pay ranges from £90 to £108 per day, with the possibility of extending into a permanent post for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a school setting if no TA qualification is held.
  • Experience as TA in a primary school preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging lessons from Early Years to Year 6.
  • Work with individuals and small groups to support learning and progress.
  • Promote positive behaviour and create an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Assist pupils with varying abilities and additional learning needs.
  • Prepare classroom resources and learning activities to boost engagement.
  • Collaborate with school staff to achieve best outcomes for pupils.
  • Support pupils' social, emotional, and academic development.

As a Primary School Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons across Early Years to Year 6
  • Working with individual pupils and small groups to support their learning, development and progress
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping to create a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Assisting pupils with varying abilities and learning needs, including those requiring additional support
  • Helping to prepare classroom resources and learning activities to enhance pupil engagement
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, and other school staff to ensure the best outcomes for pupils
  • Supporting pupils' social, emotional, and academic development, helping them to build confidence and reach their full potential
  • Assisting with playground duties, school activities, and other responsibilities as required by the school
To be successful in this role, you must:
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential)
  • At least one year's experience working in a school setting if you do not hold a relevant qualification
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • A passion for supporting children's learning, development, and wellbeing
  • A positive, patient, and flexible approach to working with pupils of varying abilities
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one
