Job summary

Smile Education is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant for Sutton Coldfield in a flexible, part-time/long-term role. The position supports pupils across Early Years to Year 6, helping with learning, behaviour and development in a welcoming primary school environment.

You’ll gain experience through collaboration with school staff, with options to work variable days per week. A DBS update service or willingness to apply is preferred. Competitive pay ranges reflect responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • At least one year’s experience in a school setting.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging lessons across Early Years to Year 6.
  • Work with individual pupils and small groups to support learning and progress.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and create a calm, inclusive classroom environment.
  • Assist pupils with varying abilities and needs, including additional support.
  • Help prepare classroom resources and activities to boost engagement.
  • Collaborate with teachers, assistants and school staff for best pupil outcomes.
  • Support pupils' social, emotional and academic development to build confidence.
  • Assist with playground duties and other school activities as required.

As a Primary School Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons across Early Years to Year 6
  • Working with individual pupils and small groups to support their learning, development and progress
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping to create a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Assisting pupils with varying abilities and learning needs, including those requiring additional support
  • Helping to prepare classroom resources and learning activities to enhance pupil engagement
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, and other school staff to ensure the best outcomes for pupils
  • Supporting pupils' social, emotional, and academic development, helping them to build confidence and reach their full potential
  • Assisting with playground duties, school activities, and other responsibilities as required by the school

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential)
  • At least one year's experience working in a school setting if you do not hold a relevant qualification
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • A passion for supporting children's learning, development, and wellbeing
  • A positive, patient, and flexible approach to working with pupils of varying abilities
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one
