Job summary

AWD Online is seeking a Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant for a primary school in Hedge End, Southampton. You will support individual pupils and groups, helping them access learning and develop independence.

You will work with teachers and the SENDCO to implement learning plans, support behaviour, review progress and respond to communication needs. The role offers team collaboration, training and a child-centred school environment with high expectations.

Qualifications

• Essential: child-centred approach and ability to create structure for children with SEND
• Experience supporting children with social or communication difficulties on an individual basis
• Ability to use non-verbal communication strategies and support pupils in a specialised provision
• Calm, firm and adaptable approach; motivate and engage pupils
• Strong behaviour management and ability to work under a fixed timetable
• Team player with initiative and ability to learn from colleagues
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures

Responsibilities

• Individual and group support to keep pupils on task and complete activities
• Implement lesson plans, support testing and review progress
• Assist with behaviour and SEND support alongside teaching staff
• Apply curriculum policies and statutory requirements in daily work
• Coordinate with SENDCO and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality
• Safeguarding and wellbeing of pupils; follow health and safety procedures
• Attend training and adapt between SEN and class support as needed
