Job summary

Quantum Scholars is recruiting a Preparing for Adulthood Mentor in Wokingham. You will provide tailored 1:1 support to three boys engaging with EOTAS, helping them gain confidence and practical life skills for adulthood.

Role focuses on community-based activities, transport use, and everyday decision-making while building positive relationships with families and other professionals.

Preparing for Adulthood Mentor - Wokingham (11 Hours per Week)

Quantum Scholars are currently recruiting for an experienced and compassionate Preparing for Adulthood Mentor to support three young boys in Wokingham who are accessing Education Otherwise Than at School (EOTAS) from September.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with young people with additional needs, helping them develop the confidence, independence, social skills and practical life skills they will need as they progress towards adulthood.

The role will involve supporting the young people both within their local community and in everyday environments, helping them become more confident navigating the world around them. This could include activities such as using public transport, visiting cafés and shops, accessing community facilities and developing the skills needed to manage everyday situations more independently.

As a Preparing for Adulthood Mentor, you will provide personalised, engaging and meaningful support based around each young person's individual needs, interests and abilities. The emphasis will be on building confidence, encouraging independence and helping each young person make progress towards greater autonomy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing personalised 1:1 support tailored to each young person's individual needs and abilities.
• Supporting young people to develop independence and practical life skills in preparation for adulthood.

• Supporting with activities such as using buses and public transport, visiting shops, cafés and other community settings.
• Developing confidence in everyday social situations and encouraging positive interactions with others.
• Supporting young people to develop communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Encouraging young people to take greater responsibility for themselves and their everyday activities.
• Building confidence, self-esteem and resilience through positive and consistent support.
• Developing positive, trusting and professional relationships with each young person.
• Encouraging and celebrating progress and achievements, no matter how small.
• Adapting activities and approaches according to each pupil's individual needs, interests and communication style.
• Working collaboratively with parents, carers and other professionals involved in the young people's support where required.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

• Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEND in a role such as Preparing for Adulthood Mentor, Support Worker, Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Tutor, Youth Worker or similar.
• Have experience supporting young people with additional needs, particularly those who may require support developing independence and life skills.
• Be confident supporting young people out in the community and in everyday environments.
• Have a genuine interest in helping young people develop the skills they need for adulthood and greater independence.
• Be patient, empathetic, encouraging and adaptable in their approach.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be confident building positive and professional relationships with young people, families and other professionals.
• Be proactive and creative when planning activities that are meaningful and engaging.
• Have a genuine commitment to helping young people overcome barriers and reach their full potential.

This is a part-time position offering 11 hours of support per week, with the provision expected to run throughout the full academic year and the potential to continue beyond this period.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy
