Job summary

Autism East Midlands is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to join Sutherland House School on a 1-year fixed-term contract with 25 hours per week. The role involves maintenance, repairs, and decoration of the premises, with responsibilities including alarm response, safety checks, and coordination with staff and contractors.

The ideal candidate has caretaking or site officer experience, preferably within an educational setting, and a practical approach to maintaining a safe, clean, and well-run site.

Qualifications

• Good communication ability and friendly, focused approach.
• Background in caretaking or site/premises management with maintenance experience.
• Experience in an educational setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and respond to alarm systems as needed.
• Perform health and safety checks (e.g., legionella temp control, fire alarm tests).
• Carry out tasks from the maintenance log and log new tasks.
• Carry out general upkeep, decoration programmes, and minor improvements.
• Maintain lighting systems and identify repair needs.
• Collect and separate waste and coordinate deliveries to the school.
• Liaise with contractors and inform admin of key dates.
• Monitor energy consumption and take meter readings.
