Job summary

Marchant Recruitment in Berkshire Ascot is seeking a reliable, proactive Caretaker to join a busy school site. You will maintain buildings and grounds to a high standard, carry out routine repairs and basic DIY, and run regular health and safety inspections while supporting school events and contractors.

The successful candidate will have prior school-site experience, practical maintenance skills, and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

Experience in caretaker, facilities, maintenance or site management role.
Practical maintenance and DIY skills.
Understanding of health and safety procedures within a school or similar environment.
Organised, reliable and able to work independently using their own initiative.
Take pride in maintaining high standards across the school site.
Excellent communication and customer service skills with staff, pupils, visitors and contractors.

Responsibilities

Maintain the school buildings and grounds to a high standard.
Carry out routine repairs, maintenance and basic DIY tasks.
Complete regular health and safety inspections and maintain records.
Open and secure the school site each day, ensuring premises remain safe and secure.
Support management of contractors and oversee maintenance works when required.
Assist with setting up rooms and facilities for assemblies, examinations and events.
Monitor site equipment and report maintenance issues promptly.
Help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Support emergency procedures and respond appropriately to site-related incidents.
