Job summary

Educato Limited is seeking a reliable Caretaker to join a Rochdale school site from September 2026. The role focuses on keeping buildings and grounds safe, clean and well maintained, supporting the leadership team and site staff to run the school smoothly.

You will carry out general maintenance, open/secure premises, assist contractors, monitor site security and health and safety, and help with gardening and moving equipment.

Qualifications

• Have previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, facilities or a similar role.
• Be practical, reliable and able to use initiative.
• Have good general maintenance and DIY skills.
• Be confident identifying and reporting health and safety issues.
• Be able to work independently and manage day-to-day tasks effectively.
• Have good communication and organisational skills.
• Be flexible and willing to respond to the changing needs of the school.
• Have the right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring the school buildings and grounds are safe, secure and well maintained
• Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs across the school site
• Completing regular checks of the buildings, facilities and external areas
• Opening and securing the school premises as required
• Responding promptly to maintenance issues and reporting larger repairs where necessary
• Supporting contractors and external visitors when working on site
• Maintaining school grounds, including basic gardening and outdoor upkeep
• Assisting with moving furniture, equipment and resources around the school
• Monitoring site security and ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed
• Maintaining appropriate records relating to site checks, maintenance and health and safety
• Supporting the school with emergency procedures and site-related incidents
• Ensuring the school environment is clean, safe and suitable for pupils and staff
• Working collaboratively with the senior leadership team and wider school staff
