Job summary

Milk Education is partnering with a specialist school in Nottingham to recruit a reliable School Caretaker on a permanent basis. You will help create a safe, well-maintained, and fully operational site that supports pupils and staff.

This role requires practical maintenance skills, knowledge of health and safety, and the ability to work independently while coordinating with contractors and the school Business Manager to uphold safeguarding standards.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a caretaker, site supervisor, facilities or maintenance role, ideally in a school or educational setting.
• Good practical maintenance and DIY skills.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation, COSHH and site compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and solve problems effectively.
• Strong communication skills with a proactive and flexible approach.
• A commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the school site is safe, secure and compliant with health and safety, safeguarding and statutory regulations.
• Carry out routine maintenance, repairs and planned preventative maintenance across the school site.
• Complete regular health and safety checks, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, intruder alarms and other statutory testing.
• Open and lock the school, maintain site security and ensure the buildings and grounds are presented to a high standard.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and site issues, prioritising safety and minimising disruption to learning.
• Liaise with contractors and support the coordination of maintenance works and statutory inspections.
• Support the Business Manager with health and safety responsibilities, including risk assessments, COSHH and compliance records.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, asset registers and site documentation.
